SAP WM is the traditional warehouse module within SAP ERP, while SAP EWM is a more advanced, flexible, and standalone or embedded system in S/4HANA for managing complex warehouse operations.
Key elements include material master, movement types, stock types (unrestricted, quality, blocked), and goods receipt/issue transactions.
Inbound processing in EWM includes goods receipt, putaway tasks, verification, handling units, and final bin placement.
Storage types are logical areas (e.g., high-rack, bulk), and bins are physical locations within those types where stock is stored.
Slotting determines the optimal location of materials in a warehouse based on characteristics such as volume, frequency, and demand.
EWM can be embedded directly within S/4HANA or deployed as a decentralized component integrated via CIF and IDocs.
Movement types define the type of inventory transaction, such as goods receipt (101), goods issue (201), or transfer (301).
A transfer order is a document used to execute physical movement of goods within a warehouse.
Wave management helps group warehouse tasks into waves for efficient picking and staging based on time, order types, or delivery dates.
MB52 (stock overview), LX03 (bin stock), LT24 (TO display), and /SCWM/MON (EWM Monitor) are commonly used reports.
